On Monday, September 30, 2024, at the close of the Nightcrawlers Jiu Jitsu session up at Colorado Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Satori, Manoel Lixandrao and Matt Link each earned their well deserved Purple Belts in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Way to go Matt! Way to go Manoel! As we are only as good as our training partners make us, our CBJJS Athletes are blessed to train with you!
Earning the Purple Belt is no easy task. It takes years of dedicated practice to achieve. My Professor, David Ruiz, used to say, “A legitimate Purple Belt is dangerous to all comers – Black Belts and World Champions alike.” In any given roll, a true Purple Belt can beat a Black Belt or a World Champion, as that is the level of skill they possess. It won’t happen always, but a true Purple Belt is dangerous and must be treated as the true threat they pose.
Both Manoel and Matt have trained with the consistency and effort that is a hallmark of a Purple Belt, each regularly honing the grappling skills that they have developed and adding new technical prowess as they continue to develop. Professor Dave also used to say “If you make it to Purple, you can make it to Black, just keep on training!”
To Matt and Manoel I say: Keep on training, you can make it to Black! Congratulations! You folks set a high bar for yourselves and your teammates. Keep on training with the tenacity, perseverance, and joy that you consistently display. You folks rock!
