Scott Dye is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt, 1st Degree, and one of the Professors and lead instructors at Colorado Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Satori. Professor Scott had this to say about his Jiu Jitsu journey:
“My martial arts journey began when I was five years old. I first earned a brown belt in Taekwondo before transitioning to Tang Soo Do, where I received my first black belt. I later trained in Enshin Karate and earned another black belt.
In 1993, I attended the very first UFC event in Denver and was fascinated as Royce Gracie defeated opponents from different martial arts backgrounds using Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Watching him dominate with takedowns, leverage, and ground techniques completely changed the way I thought about martial arts.
At the time, there were no Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu schools in Colorado, so I purchased the Gracie Combat VHS tapes and practiced the techniques with friends from karate classes and seminars whenever we could. Eventually, I had the opportunity to train with Helson Gracie in Hawaii for a summer. After returning to Colorado, I continued my training under Amal Easton and Mauricio Zingano before eventually finding my home at Colorado Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Satori, where I met Professor Sean.
After years of dedication, I earned my Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt in 2023.
For me, Jiu-Jitsu is one of the most rewarding martial arts because it combines strategy, problem-solving, and physical skill—it’s like playing human chess. Beyond providing an incredible workout, it teaches practical self-defense, leverage, timing, and the importance of technique over strength. It also complements other martial arts and mixed martial arts training.
What makes Jiu-Jitsu especially meaningful is the community built on the mats. Training alongside teammates of all ages, sizes, and backgrounds creates constant opportunities to learn, grow, and challenge one another. Every person brings something unique, making each class an opportunity to improve.
Whether you’re looking to get in shape, learn self-defense, compete, or simply challenge yourself, we’d love to welcome you to Colorado Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Satori. Come train with us and experience the benefits of Jiu-Jitsu firsthand.”
Come on up to Colorado Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and you will often find Professor Scott teaching the 6am Wrecking Crew Jiu Jitsu Session. He has the knowledge.
