Not all roads toward successes are straight or short. Sometimes we encounter detours, large or small. The time spent achieving our successes does not diminish their value: On January 16, 2018, ten years after Chad Hankins began his Jiu Jitsu journey, and after returning from a five year break, Chad earned his BJJ Purple Belt up at Colorado Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Stapleton. Fantastic job Chad; fantastic example. It takes immense courage and fortitude to return to the Darwinian jungle of the Jiu Jitsu mats after a long break, and many are not up to the task; however, Chad was not only up to the task, but he made it look like he was enjoying himself! Chad said this about it in his Facebook post:
“Chad Hankins is with Don Westman and 2 others.

Well…. It’s been 10 years in the making. Ok, I took 5 years off. But today I received my purple belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Words can’t really describe the way I feel right now. So much appreciation to Professor Sean Stewart, Don Westman, Big Greg and everyone at CBJJ Stapleton. Never give up on your passion in life!!!”
I still remember battling it out on the mats with Chad back at the old Academy under the eyes of Professor David Ruiz when we first started Jiu Jitsu; Chad gave me fits then and Chad still does now. Proud to have you as a member of our community leading the way and sharing your knowledge with our cadre of newbies sir! We are the better for it. Congratulations on earning your Purple Belt Chad! See you on the mats.
